KARACHI, Jan 28: The Sindh health department has decided to restore the quota seats for doctors’ children in the government- run medical colleges of the province with immediate effect, it was learnt officially.

Sources said that the decision to restore the quota seats for the wards of doctors, practising in public and private sectors in the province, was in line with a recent verdict of the superior court, under which children of Armed Forces personnel, doctors, and the students belonging to Fata and the Northern Areas had once again been entitled to apply for admissions in medical colleges under the quota system.

According to a senior official of the Sindh health department, a meeting of the principals of medical colleges in the province will be held to allocate the quota seats for doctors’ children in different medical institutions of the province.

The meeting, with health secretary in the chair, will also decide about the admissions under the quota system for the newly commenced academic session.

It was learnt that as per the policy of the government to gradually slash seats in its medical colleges and universities, a ten per cent cut would also be implemented in the case of doctors’ children.

Therefore, a total of 18 seats will be available for doctors’ wards in the medical colleges for the current session.

The meeting will also consider and approve the final list of students selected for admission on self-finance basis for the year.
