Dollar higher against yen

TOKYO, Jan 24: The dollar pushed higher against the yen on Thursday with sentiment on Japan still bearish amid a dearth of fresh leads before a key speech by US Federal Reserve chairman Alan Greenspan, dealers said.

The greenback was quoted at 134.40-43 yen up from 134.35-39 yen in New York and 133.86-89 yen in Tokyo late Wednesday.

The 135 yen level is a psychologically important line and a relatively large-volume of sell orders are said to be lined up, he said.

It was firmer at 1,331.35 South Korean won from 1.331.30, 10,431.50 Indonesian rupiah from 10,397.50, 44.22 Thai baht from 44.175, 1.8407 Singapore dollars from 1.8382.—AFP
