FAISALABAD, Jan 23: The Jamaat-i-Islami will launch a countrywide movement to press the government to release Qazi Husain Ahmad.
This was stated by JI City Amir Mahboobuz Zaman Butt while talking to newsmen here on Wednesday.
He said that the government was inviting ‘dummy’ politicians to discuss national issues but JI Amir had been detained for raising voice against wrong policies.
He said that the religious organizations would continue their struggle against secularism and anti-Islam forces at all costs.
ELECTED: Twelve professors have been elected unopposed to the Senate of the University of Agriculture.
They are: Prof Dr Khalid Pervez, Dr Zafar Iqbal, Dr Faqir Muhammad, Dr Manzoor Ahmed, Dr Muhammad Yaseen, Dr Muhammad Afzal, Dr Pervez Akhtar, Dr Masood Ahmed Butt, Dr Mahmood Ahmad Randhawa, Dr Mumtaz Akhtar Cheema, Mukhtar Ahmed, Dr Masood Akhtar, Dr Muhammad Tahir Siddiqui, Dr Muhammad Athar Jawed and Nadeem Saeed.
Meanwhile, Vice-Chancellor Dr Riaz Hussain Qureshi has said that students could play a pivotal role against unethical and anti-Islam activities. He was speaking at a meeting of scouts here.
GAMBLERS HELD: Five people were arrested while gambling in Maryam Colony, Saddar police claimed on Wednesday.
On a tip-off, police raided a gambling den in Maryam Colony on Tuesday night and caught Pitras Masih, Inayat, Shoaib, Akram and Yaqoob while gambling. Thousands of rupees stake money was also seized.
A case has been registered.
COPS RETIRED: Faisalabad Range Deputy Inspector-General of Police Talat Mahmood has ordered retirement of three inspectors on charges of corruption and misuse of authority.
A special police team conducted investigations against many police officials and found inspectors Mian Khalid, Mehr Muhammad Mumtaz and Allah Bux guilty. It recommended legal action against the accused officials. Accordingly, the DIG ordered their retirement.
He also ordered investigations against 29 sub-inspectors and inspectors posted at various places in the range.
Meanwhile, district police chief Tasadduq Hussain has ordered all SHOs the arrest of proclaimed offenders and court-absconders in their respective areas.
He warned that strict disciplinary action would be taken against the policemen found using third degree methods during interrogation or detaining innocent people without any justification.
He directed the SHOs to intensify patrol during night.
