KARACHI, Jan 23: An exhibition of paintings and drawings by Wahab Jaffer will open at Chawkandi Art on Thursday.

The exhibition will continue till Feb 2.

An invitation card issued by the gallery quotes Mr Jaffer as saying that “the drawings in this exhibition, a selection made from more than 200 in number, have a long history. They were started with my last hospitalization in Karachi and were continued during my years away in Toronto. I carried on with them when I returned. During the time of being in hospital and being away, the sketch pad was like a memoir of my own experiences. Instead of words, I drew with a pen, recording each mood and feeling of being trapped in a bed, of being in exile, of homesickness”.

HE ADDS: “I feel a close affinity to these sketches, perhaps the way a writer is drawn to his own work, his diary of happenings. Though mute, I hope each work speaks of a different feeling and frame of mind. Perhaps one work speaks of an outer, estranged landscape, while another reflect my own unease. Throughout these months and years, the sketchpad has been a constant companion, perhaps therefore an honest witness to the turmoil within me.”
