KARACHI: Diversity of Japanese beauty on calendars

KARACHI, Jan 23: An exhibition of Japanese calendars began at the Arts Council on Wednesday.

The three-day show is being held under the auspices of the Japan Cultural Centre Karachi.

The Sindh Minister for Finance, Planning and Development, Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh, inaugurated the exhibition.

As many as 96 calendars from various multi-national organizations in Japan, as well as the Japanese Foreign Ministry, have been put on display at the exhibition, which will continue till Friday from 10.30am to 4.30pm.

Giving his views after witnessing the exhibition, Dr Hafiz Shaikh said the event was reflective of the diversity and beauty of Japan.

The exhibition, he added, also showed the range of products and natural beauty and scenery of Japan besides the modern and traditional art of that country.

On the occasion, the minister also termed the event a ‘moving exhibition’.

It was stated that the main purpose of the exhibition was to promote better cultural understanding between the people of Japan and Pakistan as the calendars designed and printed in a country provide a glimpse of the socio-economic, art and cultural scenario of its people.

In Japan, most of the industrial and business firms compete with each other to publish excellent quality calendars every year.

The Vice-President of the Arts Council, S.H. Hashmi, and Secretary Saifur Rehman Grami were also present at the inaugural ceremony.—APP
