India to brief Saudi Arabia

By Our Correspondent

RIYADH, Jan 22: A four-member Indian delegation, led by Rajya Sabha (Upper House) Deputy Chairperson Najma Heptullah, will arrive in Riyadh next Sunday to apprise the Saudi government of the Indian position on the current tensions between India and Pakistan, the Indian Ambassador in Saudi Arabia announced here.

She will be accompanied by M. Hamid Ansari, former Indian Ambassador to the kingdom who is now serving as the rector of the Aligarh Muslim University, and another parliament member Yerram Naidu.

Heptullah, who is also the chairperson of the International Parliamentary Union (IPU), was expected to deliver messages from Indian leadership to the Saudi King Fahd and Crown Prince Abdullah.

The talks between the two countries is line with an agreement on regular foreign office consultation signed by the two countries last year.

The Indian delegation will be discussing a number of bilateral, regional and international issues besides the Indo-Pakistan standoff, Indian embassy officials told the press here.
