Annan due today

ISLAMABAD, Jan 22: United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan will arrive here on Wednesday for his second official visit to Pakistan in less than a year.

According to the UN Information Centre (UNIC) Director Eric Falt, the secretary-general would meet President Musharraf on Thursday.

UN sources said Kashmir issue would figure prominently in the talks. The UN chief would like to encourage progress in Pakistan-India relations, they said.

Head of the UN Military Observer Group in India and Pakistan would brief Annan on the situation on the Line of Control, sources said.

Kofi Annan will meet officials and the heads of the UN agencies in Pakistan. He will also meet Foreign Minister Abdul Sattar. Sources said the UN secretary-general would encourage the leadership to continue along the path towards civilian rule.
