KARACHI: Private schools want changes to new law

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 22: The Private School Management Association has urged the governor of Sindh to make amendments to the recently promulgated Private Educational Institutions (Regulation and Control) Ordinance-2001.

Speaking at a press conference here on Tuesday, the senior office-bearers of the association expressed the view that the bureaucracy, responsible for drafting of the ordinance, had included such clauses in it which would creat confusions, unrest and hardships for the private school managements.

The senior vice-chairman of the association, Sharfuzzaman, along with general secretary Mansoor Sadiq Zaidi, said there should be a provision for increasing the fees of any school during the academic year as well, as there was no guarantee that prices of educational commodities would not increase in the mid of any academic session.

They further said that the government should not bother about the audit of accounts as it had no concern with the education department. They said when the government was not giving any financial aid or grant to the privately-run institutions then why should it worry about their accounts.

It was further stated that procedures to solve disputes between the school staff or students and management should be finalized and implemented only after dialogue with the representatives of the private school management.

Instead of tightening its grip over privet schools, the Sindh Education Department should endeavour for improving the standard of education at government run schools, they added.
