LAHORE, Jan 21: The Water and Sanitation Agency of Lahore Development Authority will take over maintenance of surface drainage in the city district from the Solid Waste Management Department, it was decided on Monday.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the committee constituted by the district Nazim to consider ways for improving the sanitation arrangements in the provincial metropolis.

The committee, comprising Wasa and SWM officials, was of the view that surface drainage was not being properly managed by SWM workers. Wasa, it was felt, had the relevant capability and know how.

It was decided that the SWM department would hand over details of its surface drainage system to the Wasa which would assess the handling charges.

Participants of the meeting included the Solid Waste Management director, Dr Tufail Siddiqi, and the Wasa deputy managing director, Muhammad Aslam Khokhar.
