ISLAMABAD, Jan 21: Four students of Kinnaird College for Women, Lahore, are proceeding to Japan on Tuesday to participate in the South Asian High School Students Invitation Programme being held from January 23 to 31.

Prior to their departure, the students and their escort teacher met Japanese ambassador Sadaaki Numata and Madame Numata at their residence on Monday.

The ambassador congratulated the students for being selected for the programme and hoped that their visit would help them in gaining a better insight about the people and culture of Japan, as well as promote mutual understanding between the people of the two countries.

The programme is sponsored by the Japanese government for cultural exchanges with South Asian countries.

The high school students from these counties are invited to Japan to learn about its economy, culture and society, and to exchange views with the Japanese youths.

During their visit, they will study Japanese culture and visit institutions like the parliament and the University of Tokyo. They will also have a chance to watch Sumo wrestling, and have detailed interaction with the students of a Japanese High School.

Later, the students will stay with a Japanese host family, visit the Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima.

The names of the participating students are Sadaf Syed, Sadaf Sajid, Faiza Aijaz and Myra Khan. Rukhsana Gauhar is the escort teacher.
