13 running for LHCBA offices

LAHORE, Jan 20: Thirteen lawyers have entered the arena for the Lahore High Court Bar Association elections scheduled to be held on Feb 16.

The LHCBA has around 5,000 members.

Two of the three candidates for president, namely Chaudhry Muzzammil Khan and Riasat Chaudhry, belong to the Pakistan Muslim League. Mr Naeemul Hasan Shirazi is the third contestant for the office.

The Hamid Khan group is reported to be supporting Chaudhry Muzzammal Khan. The Khosa Group has yet to endorse any of the candidates.

There are three candidates for vice-president. They are: Khawar Ikram Bhatti, Jawahir A Naqvi and MM Alam.

For secretary, there are only two candidates so far. They are Shahid Mahmood and Muzzammil Akhtar.

Four lawyers — Khwaja Abdul Saattar Kashar, Waseem Mumtaz Malik, Nadeem Ahmad Azar and M Saaleem Mirza — are aspiring for the post of finance secretary.
