LAHORE, Jan 20: The condition of being at least a graduate for the candidates contesting the National Assembly elections will virtually urbanize the country’s political culture, depriving a majority of the rural people of their right to elect their representative from among themselves.

Most of the graduates belonging to rural areas usually shift to urban centres in search of jobs and better business opportunities.

Lawyers will be the major beneficiaries if the government does not withdraw the condition or at least relax it down to intermediate and matriculation level.

So far as lawyers belonging to the rural areas are concerned, they usually keep their roots back in their communities. They use to return to their countryside houses after attending courts in nearby cities and towns.

They will be the best bet for political parties which often don’t have graduates in their top ranks.

The condition will also oust several seasoned politicians from political arena.
