LAHORE, Jan 19: Ali Ahmad, a 16 handicapper (Lahore Gymkhana) with a net score of 10 under-par-134 and Tariq Mehmood (Islamabad) with a gross aggregate of 147 maintained their top positions in the net and gross event on the second day of the Quaid-i-Azam golf championship at the Lahore Gymkhana course Saturday.
Ali, who handed over the same card of five-under-67 which he fired on first day, managed to maintain the lead in the net event. He completed the outer round at six over-par-41 and the inner round at five over-par-42.
A 14 handicapper, Danayal Aziz of (Lahore Gymkhana) improved his position and with Asad Khawar (10 handicapper) were in second spot with aggregate of 139 each..
Danyal who posted a poor (82) on the opening day earned an improved net card of one under-71 (46+39) to match Asad Khawar in second place. Asad’s two day break-up was 70+69. Asad played good round on the second day as completed a fine net card of three under-69 (38+41) to make aggregate of 139.
With aggregate of 140 (71+69) the 17 handicapper Mian Tariq Pervez was in third position.
In the gross section, Tariq Mehmood despite a sluggish start retained the his top slot with a total score of three over-147 (74+73). He completed the first round with one over-36 and the back round at par-37.
Tariq registered a double bogey at the fifth and lost a stroke at the 13th. He, however, made ground when earned one birdie each at the seventh and the 17th.
National champion Shahid Javed Khan who played badly on the first day showed remarkable improvement when posted one under-71 to make two day total of 151 (80+71) and surge into second spot. He had only one bogey at the 2nd, but repaired the damage after earning birdie at the fourth, sixth and the seventh.
Imran Ahmed (75+71) and Sameer Ahmed (81+75) with aggregate of 156 each were joint at the third position.
