PESHAWAR, Jan 19: Three separate accountability courts here on Saturday reserved judgments in references filed against three former government officials, including a commissioner and an additional secretary.

The three accused — former commissioner Peshawar Division Abdul Hameed Khan, an additional secretary of housing and physical planning Akber Marwat and a tehsildar Sardar Ali — have been facing trial for possessing assets disproportionate to their known sources of income.

The accountability court, presided over by Miftauddin Khan, fixed Jan 30 for pronouncement of judgment in the reference against Hameed Khan. Mr Khan is accused of possessing assets to the tune of Rs51.551 million, which were not in accordance with his known sources of earning.

His counsel argued that there was conflict in the evidence given by different prosecution witnesses.

He stated that the defendant was falsely implicated in the case as he had accounted for the properties mentioned by the National Accountability Bureau.

In the reference filed against Mr Marwat, the court presided over by Attaullah Khan fixed Jan 24 for pronouncement of the verdict. Similarly, the court of Said Maroof Khan fixed Feb 2 for pronouncement of verdict in the trial against Sardar Ali.
