KARACHI, Jan 18: Lower Sindh pumped in two second half goals to tame a battling Upper Sindh 4-2 in the preliminary round of the junior under-18 national hockey championship Friday.
Both the sides gave each other a matching response and went for a break with a scoreline reading 2-2 at the UBL Sports Complex.
Lower Sindh, erased the memory of their 10-0 mauling by Karachi Whites on the opening day, and opened the scoring with a goal from Qamar Waheed in the 14th minute.
Upper Sindh took just four minutes to equalise through Amir Raza but Mohammad Adil put Lower Sindh ahead once again in the 25th minute.
The seesaw match proceeded with another goal from Amir that put the tie on an even keel in the 29th minute.
Lower Sindh, dominated the field after lemons and finally punctured Upper Sindh’s spirits with a 42nd-minute goal from Riasat. Qamar’s 55th-minute goal gave the tie a finishing touch.
In a virtually one-sided affair, Karachi Colours gave Karachi Whites a hockey lesson by handing a 5-1 thrashing.
Karachi Whites received first blow early in the first half when Ebad Hussain converted a 4th-minute penalty corner.
Karachi Colours’ Shabbir Ahmad poached the second just five minutes before the end of first period of the match having 30 minutes halves.
Karachi Whites endured a nervous patch after the interval and slammed home their solitary goal that was a well-worked effort from nimble-footed skipper Wasif Raza and Imran Khan.
Wasif picked the ball from 25 yards, hared down the left side battling his way past defenders and Imran scored through a deflection from Wasif’s rasping hit.
Karachi Colours might have added another through a penalty corner but were denied by Whites goalkeeper who punched the ball to safety.
Karachi Whites were once again put on defensive with Zeeshan Jabbar receiving marching orders for rough play in the 44th minute.
The winners further stretched their ascendancy 4-1 when Allay Hassan grabbed the third by neatly slamming the board after an inch-perfect Rizwan Khan pass in the 46th minute.
Karachi Colours compounded the miseries of their opposition and blasted the 50th-minute fourth off a short corner through Ebad.
Iftikhar Ahmad completed the rout when he slotted home the fifth scoring from an acute angle four minutes from time.
Samiullah Khan of Karachi Colours was also shown a yellow card in the 58th minute.
