Students resent computer fee

By Our Correspondent

SUKKUR, Jan 18: Hundreds of students belonging to Sukkur, Ghotki, and other parts of upper Sindh held protests on Friday against colleges for demanding extra money in the name of computer fee before sending their examination forms to the BISE on Friday.

The protesting students marched through the main roads of the cities and stopped in front of the Sukkur and Ghotki press clubs.

Speaking to newsmen, they complained that the administration of the colleges were forcing students to pay Rs1,000 as computer fee, which according to them was unjustified.

They said they had never been provided any computers in the colleges nor had they ever been provided any training on how to use them but just prior to the examinations they were being forced to pay the so-called computer fee which was not at all justified.

In Sukkur, the students chanted slogans against the college administration and staged a sit-in in front of the Zila Nazim, Sukkur, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, who had asked the EDO, Education, Mrs Rafia Pathan, not to charge the computer fee but in vain.

Later, a meeting of the EDO, Education, and college administration was held which decided that the college administration collect the fees from the students in three instalments. However, the students rejected the proposal.

The Zila Nazim, while speaking to a delegation of students of the Islamia College, Sukkur, said he would talk to the Government of Sindh to resolve the issue.
