Upcountry receives rain, snowfall


ISLAMABAD, Jan 15: The upper parts of the country received rain and snowfall, while weather remained dry elsewhere on Tuesday.

The Met office forecast more rains and snowfalls in Kashmir, the Hazara division, Murree and its adjoining areas during the next 24 hours.

Murree, Ayubia, Nithyagalli and other areas of Gilayat also received scattered snowfall.

Abbottabad received 47mm rain, Muzaffarabad 42mm, Balakot 39mm, Islamabad 8mm, Rawalpindi 7mm, Attock 4mm, Saidu Sharif 7mm and Astore 10mm. Murree received 1.5 feet snow, which attracted a large number of people from Islamabad and Rawalpandi.

The maximum temperature in the federal capital was recorded at 16 degrees Centigrade.

FLIGHTS CANCELLED: PIA could not operate its scheduled flights from Islamabad to Northern Areas on Tuesday due to inclement weather.

The scheduled flights from Islamabad to Gilgit and Skardu were cancelled on Monday and Tuesday due to cloudy weather.

Intermittent snowfall has been falling on Karakoram, Hindukush and Himalaya mountain ranges for the last 48 hours, increasing cold in the area.

Meanwhile, the Gilgit Met office recorded the minimum temperature at 3 degrees Centigrade and the maximum temperature at 9 degrees Centigrade.—APP
