PSB keeps tenure restriction
LAHORE, Jan 14: Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) has kept tenure restriction on top office bearers of the Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) as well as National Sports Federations (NSF) in the revised version of the sports policy, rejecting pressure of the National Olympic Committee (NOC).
The policy still bars president, secretary, treasurer of POA as well as NSF’s for contesting the elections for a third time after completing two terms, four year each.
“Tenure restriction for three office bearers including president, secretary and treasurer is to be strictly followed,” said Brig Saulat Abbas, Director General, PSB, in the latest addition of the policy made available to APP Monday.
The policy however, allows any office bearer who has completed two terms in above mentioned office can however contest the election to a higher echelon.
PSB has made a few changes in the policy after POA wrote a letter to the International Olympic Committee to advise them on the steps taken for restricting top office bearers for contesting for the same office for a third successive term.
POA has maintained that IOC may take a disciplinary action against the Board in case the the policy was not modified.
It was learnt that PSB has also written a letter to IOC explaining them the salient features of the sports policy ,specially on tenure restriction.
According to the revised election-programme the district by districts level elections should take place by Feb 15, provincial level elections by District by March 15, national level elections by provinces by April 15, POC election by May 15 and NOC’s election ny June 15.
The games selected in the policy for their elections include, athletics, badminton, basketball, boxing, cricket, football, handball, hockey, kabaddi, squash, swimming, snooker/billiards, table tennis, volleyball, weightlifting and wrestling.—APP
