HYDERABAD: Anti-TB drive to be completed in Sindh by 2003

HYDERABAD, Jan 14: Dr Ghulam Nabi Khokhar, director, Tuberculosis Control, Sindh, has said that DOTS (Directly Observed Treatment Short Course for TB) has been introduced 30 per cent in Hyderabad, Tharparkar, defunct Umerkot, Dadu and Sukkur districts.
He said that this year 70 per cent area would be covered in the districts of Jaccobabad, Shikarpur, Larkana and Karachi city and added that the training of manpower (doctors, paramedics, laboratory technicians/assistants and LHWs) was underway.
In a statement issued here on Monday, he said that 22 doctors of Jaccobabad district, 71 doctors of Shikarpur and 11 laboratory technicians/ assistants of both the districts had completed their training.
He said the directorate of Tuberculosis Control, Sindh, with the collaboration of Baqai Medical University Karachi, had trained 14 doctors at the Baqai Institute of Chest Diseases, Karachi, on DOTS.
The training of the doctors of public sector at Karachi was also going on where 34 doctors were attending the training, he said, and added that after the training of the manpower, the anti-TB Medicines and Lab chemicals would be supplied and TB pat
