PESHAWAR, Jan 12: The political administration of Khyber Agency is opposing the development plan for tribal areas.

This was stated by KKYO General-Secretary Nawab Shah and a leader of Zawan Pukhtoon, Ehsanullah Khan, in a joint press conference on Saturday at Peshawar Press Club.

Both the leaders condemned the arrest of Koki Khel Youth Organization (KKYO) Chief Zarmin Khan Afridi and Zawan Pakhtoon President Ikramullah Khan Afridi who were arrested on Tuesday for opposing mismanagement of the political administration in Jamrud Tehsil, Khyber Agency.

They said the administration in connivance with the tribal elders was trying to implicate the detained leaders in a fake case.

It was due to the army’s uplift package for the tribal areas that the political management was feeling itself insecure as it wanted to keep the tribesmen deprived of modern facilities under the outdated Frontier Crimes Regulations, they said. The rules were devised by the British rulers to suppress the people of tribal areas, they added.

The administration had been getting organised press conferences   against the local bodies system through its white-bearded touts, they also said.

They demanded of the government to introduce a regular law in the tribal belt. The leaders also blamed the administration for flour smuggling to Afghanistan and misappropriating huge funds earmarked for the development schemes.
