SIALKOT, Jan 11: Police department’s statistics negate Sialkot SSP’s claims that there has been a considerable decrease in the heinous nature crimes in the district during the year 2001.
At a recent press briefing SSP Muhammad Tahir had claimed that owing to use of scientific techniques the crime rate in the district has decreased to a great extent.
According to official statistics, 237 people were murdered and 1,772 were injured in separate incidents during 2001 in Sialkot district while 231 people were murdered and 919 were injured in the year 2000.
Some 137 women were abducted in the district during 2001 and 291 in 2000.
Valuables, gold ornaments, cars, cash, electronic goods worth Rs265,889,375 were looted in 26 dacoity, 328 burglary and 425 theft incidents in 2001. Police claimed to have recovered looted goods worth Rs45,325,528.
In 2000, gold ornaments, cash, electronic goods, cars, and other valuables worth Rs66,173,892 were looted in 23 dacoity, 321 robbery, 270 burglary and 505 theft incidents. Police could recover looted goods worth Rs31,676,605.
Electricity: The district government has decided to provide electricity to 35 villages during the current financial year under the Khushaal Pakistan Programme.
This was stated by Sialkot District Nazim Mian Naeem Javaid during a meeting of the executive district officers held here.
According to a press release, the Nazim said that Punjab Governor Khalid Maqbool agreed for the early establishment of a medical college in Sialkot in collaboration with the business community. The governor also sought suggestions from Sialkot district government and local business community in this regard.
Mr Javaid said that basis facilities would be provided in all educational institutions of the district under a phased programme. Boundary walls and toilets will be constructed in all girls high and elementary schools.
New buildings would be provided to all the shelterless schools.
The Nazim said that committees were being constituted under the supervision of district coordination officer for the recruitment of teachers and medical officers an contract basis.
Later, the Nazim also spoke at the concluding session of the five-day training workshop on education management information system.
TORTURED: A trader was kidnapped by five bandits on Thursday and left deprived of cash and a mobile phone the same day.
Muhammad Farooq was on his way to Lahore from Sialkot by his car (STL-7952) when four bandits intercepted him on the Sialkot-Daska Road near MR Link canal bridge, Motra. The bandits took Farooq to Kamra, Attock, beat him and threw him in the fields. They deprived him of cash and drove away with his car.
On returning, he told police about the incident.
Investigation is underway.
