Probe into Ferozewala ‘encounter’

GUJRANWALA, Jan 11: A local court on Friday ordered probe into the killing of a youth in an encounter and deputed the special judicial magistrate as an inquiry officer.

The judge appealed witnesses, if any, to record their statements on Jan 14 in his court.

It may be mentioned that four policemen in plainclothes raided the outhouse of Hafizullah in Ferozewala village in search of a wanted man. The team reportedly opened fire when the wanted man tried to escape. Bullets hit Hafizullah who died on the spot. Later, the SSP got registered an FIR against the policemen and suspended them from service.

HELD: A dacoit was arrested after a brief encounter when he was fleeing after looting a plastic store here on Friday.

Tariq Muhammad alias Bhagiar and his accomplice Bhola Arain snatched Rs120,000 in cash from Usman Saeed, owner of the plastic store on Gondlanwala Road, and escaped on their motorcycle. On receiving a radio message, a raiding party of Model Town police went after them and arrested one of them after a brief encounter. His associate however managed to escape.

Police recovered the motorcycle (FDV-4633) and illicit arms from his possession. He is the brother of notorious PO Muhammad Asif alias Cheeta who had already been killed in an encounter a few years ago.

BAILS REJECTED: A local court on Friday rejected bail applications of a woman and her lover in a murder case.

According to the prosecution, convict Naila Bibi, the mother of three children, had relations with a man, Muhammad Mushtaq, of Dhela Chattha village. Her husband Muhammad Yousaf asked her to mend ways, but to no avail. With the help of her lover, she poisoned her husband to death a few weeks ago.

Alipur Chattha police had arrested the accused after registering hudood and murder cases against them.
