RAWALPINDI, Jan 11: The Lahore High Court, Rawalpindi Bench, has served a notice on the federal government on a constitutional petition challenging two recent judicial appointments to the Supreme Court, contending that the appointments were violative of the principle of seniority laid down by the Supreme Court.

The notice was served on Deputy Attorney-General (DAG) Sultan Mansoor who was present in the court.

The court also ordered that all the record of earlier writ petitions on the issue and any order of the court must be placed before the court on Jan 15.

The petitioner contended that appointment of Justice Fakeer Khokar to the Supreme Court, who has been shown as No 13 on the Seniority List of the high court, was not only against the constitution but he was also disqualified to be appointed as judge of the Supreme Court.

The petitioner contended that consultative process for the appointments of Justice Mohammad Nawaz Abbasi and Justice Fakeer Khokar was not proper as they were appointed against the vacancies which fell vacant on Jan 6 and 9.
