KARACHI: Traffic Officials suspended

KARACHI, Jan 11: The section officer of the Nazimabad traffic section and the traffic police officials concerned were placed under suspension following a accident on Thursday in which a schoolgirl died and her two school fellows were injured.

The Spokesman for the Sindh police said the IG Sindh, taking notice of the incident, had suspended the officials, including SO Nazimabad traffic section, Iqbal Tanoli, and ordered an inquiry into the incident.

The schoolgirl, Afsheen, and her two school fellows were knocked down by a bus (19-D) in Nazimabad No 1, near Subhan Bakery. The driver of the bus, Wajid Ali, had fled the spot along with the vehicle. He was arrested later in Azizabad. Following the accident, angry youths had set fire to a bus on the same road.

Meanwhile the DIG Traffic and Highways, Saud Mirza, suspended the section officers of the Preedy and Sindh Secretariat traffic sections for dereliction of duty.
