KARACHI: Notices issued to 50 security agencies

KARACHI, Jan 10: The Sindh home department has issued notices to 50 private security agencies for not renewing their registration.

A total of 75 security companies have been operating in the province, and the notices have been issued under the Private Security Agencies Ordinance.

The ordinance was promulgated in January 2001 to regulate and control these agencies. Under the ordinance, those agencies, which are not Sindh-based and were operating in the province through their sub-offices, were also required to get themselves registered and seek their renewal annually after payment of a prescribed fee.

The sources said that during whole the year none of the agencies applied for renewal of their registration despite the fact that the ordinance had prescribed a time-limit for them.

Moreover, the home department had also not framed rules for implementing the ordinance and the practice to this effect has only been started recently.—PPI
