Ex-skippers criticize

KARACHI, Jan 9: Former Pakistan cricket captains Wednesday described as a dangerous precedent the decision to shift its home series against the West Indies to Sharjah.

“It’s very unforunate that the West Indies has declined to play in Pakistan and the home series was shifted to Sharjah,” former skipper Intikhab Alam said.

Such a “precedent” was dangerous and should not be repeated, he said.

“They are no more the mighty West Indies and are against one of the best sides in the world and they should have played here,” Intikhab said.

Another former captain, Zaheer Abbas, said the West Indian fears were unfounded. “There is no logic behind the decision not to play here as the protection of the players has always been the responsibility of the host and Pakistan was ready to provide all security,” he said.—AFP
