LAHORE, Jan 9: The fancied gelding, Blue Stone, showed a remarkable improvement to win the feature event run over five furlongs during the mid-week Lahore Gymkhana races at the Racecourse on Wednesday.
The joint favourite chestnut colt Puma Star gave Blue Stone a tough fight in the last furlong of the race but ran out of stamina to be defeated by three-quarters of a length to be content with the second spot.
The bay colt Fair Boy ran gamely to finish third six-and-a-half lengths further back while the bay Roberto Bay completed the frame, three-quarters of a length further behind. Only seven ran for this fifth event of the day.
The winner is trained by Raja Tehmasab Khan and was partnered by the riding boy M. Hussain with precision.
Earlier the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards withdrew the five-year-old bay mare Song Of Peace from the race under orders of the Jockey Club Of Pakistan (JCP).
It was learnt that an owner had complained in writing to the JCP alleging that the mare had fraudulently been registered as a half-bred animal.
He further alleged that the pedigree documents of Song Of Peace submitted to the JCP for registration were fake. The JCP has ordered that a thorough probe be conducted and till then entries of Song Of Peace in races be stopped.
This is the second incident of its kind within a week. On Wednesday last the LRC stewards stopped participation in races of the three-year-old filly, Royal Fantasy, on similar allegations.
In the second race the odds-on favourite. In Command, sprinted home determinedly to win the event.
The colt outpaced the bay mare Baligio, defeating her by six lengths.
The riding boy M. Jehangir rode the winner.
Chestnut filly, Royal Prosper, made amends for her consecutive defeats in her two previous outings to win the opener under the riding boy Zahid Ali.
She beat Fight Again by about two lengths. Thank You Boss and Rambo Princess completed the board among 16 runners.
In a fine front-running display, the bay colt Raj Rux ran a spirited race to win the third event. Running along the rails the colt shot into the lead right from the start and maintained the advantage till the finishing post.
He beat the late rushing grey mare Grey Matter by two-and-three quarters of a length with Sea Cadet, a close fourth. In all, 14 ran for this event.
The riding boy Zahid Ali highlighted the day’s racing by scoring a double through Royal Prosper in the opener and Always Inn in the sixth and last race.
Trainer Raja Tehmasab Khan sent out two winners Raj Rux and Blue Stone in the third and fifth race.
The same combination also earned a lucrative double for the owner, Raja M. Wasif Kayani. All events were contested over the sprinting distance of five furlongs.
Three favourites obliged the punters in the first, second and fifth race.
The remaining events were won by long shots, Raj Rux, Blu’s Wendy and Always Inn in the third, fourth and sixth race. by and large the punters enjoyed races in which some close finishes were seen.
