Five killed, three hurt in accident

MIRPURKHAS, Jan 9: Five people were killed and two others were injured in an accident on Tuesday night.

A coaster (R-0007) rammed into a tractor-trolley from behind near the Karachi hotel on Naokot-Mirpurkhas road, some 30 kilometres from here.

Mushtaq Ahmed, coaster driver, Gul Mohammed, tractor-trolley driver, Rahimuddin Shaikh, Jehanzeb (10), and Hoto Kolhi were killed on the spot, while Dr Nasir and Muhammad Akram Bhatti were seriously injured.

The injured were immediately taken to the Civil Hospital, Mirpurkhas.

RALLY: A rally was taken out from the municipal shopping centre, led by the Taluka Naib Nazim, Javed Ahmed Papa, on Wednesday, to express solidarity with the nation.

Hundreds of school children, elected representatives and notables participated in the rally.

SUSPENDED: The district coordination officer, Mirpurkhas, suspended one officer and ordered departmental action against 16 clerks, who were found absent from their duty.

The DCO, Mir Hussain Ali, paid a surprise visit to the district agriculture extension department and found the officer and the 16 clerks absent from their duties.

During his visit to the district office, fisheries, he was briefed about the shortage of staff and furniture.

He was told that the furniture of the old office was forfeited by the house owner on the pretext of non-payment of rent.

He suspended the district officer, fisheries, for his negligence and not giving satisfactory reply regarding the furniture.
