KARACHI, Jan 9: The Inspector-General Police Sindh, Syed Kamal Shah, has issued orders for taking a number of steps in view of the growing number of cases of car-snatching and theft.
Speaking at a press conference, the SSP Anti-Car-Lifting Cell (ACLC), Abdul Razzaq Cheema, said the steps ordered by the IGP included reorganization of ACLC, establishment of district ACLCs in districts Central, East, West, Malir and South, which will be headed by DSPs.
The ACLCs will also be set up in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur and Larkana ranges.
Under the reorganization plan, the SSP said, experienced and talented officers would be posted in ACLCs. Other steps included transfer of computerized data from CPLC to ACLC, establishment of dataways for maintaining record and photographs of criminals involved in cases of car-theft and snatching besides carrying out joint laboratory test of suspected vehicles by the teams of CPLC and ACLC.
The SSP ACLC said future plans included “naka bandi” (siege operation) by joint teams of Excise Department, CPLC and ACLC; action by Excise Department and other agencies against accused and employees involved in fake registration; legal action against those selling or keeping stolen and snatched vehicles; establishment of dataways for maintaining of computerized record of criminals abetting in cases of car-theft; joint operation by CIA teams of Balochistan, Punjab and NWFP; development of ACLC’s website; establishment of 39 checkpoints in the suburbs of Karachi.
Razzaq Cheema briefed newsmen about the performance of ACLC including the recovery of vehicles, arrest of accused and busting of gangs.—APP
