LAHORE, Jan 8: The Water and Power Development Authority saved $6 billion from the revision of its power purchase agreements with the independent power producers, Himayatullah Khan, the Wapda secretary and Vision 2025 coordinator, said here on Tuesday.
He was speaking to the participants of a Pakistan Navy War College staff course.
About the national water development programme, he said three major projects — Gomal Zam Dam, Mirani Dam and Thal Flood Water Canal — had already been started. The Rainee-Thar Canal and the Katchi Canal projects, he said, would be inaugurated in March and August, repectively.
In its drive to clean up the Authority, he said, the management had decided about 29,000 disciplinary cases and penalized about 2,000 officers. This, he claimed, had given the Wapda a new culture and revived its dynamic role in national development.
Meanwhile, the Wapda authorities reviewed the performance of water sector projects and expressed satisfaction with the progress. The meeting also reviewed the management of finances, processing and coordination of water and hydro power projects.
