MULTAN, Jan 8: Judicial inquiry should be conducted against the fake police encounter in which two innocent citizens were shot dead on Monday.

This was demanded by Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan’s Multan president Mirza Luqman in a press conference here on Tuesday. Mirza Luqman is the brother of Muhammad Imran who was killed in police encounter near Zia Park on Monday. Imran was married just three months ago.

Police shot dead two alleged dacoits who were escaping after looting Rs85,000 in cash from Wasa director Chaudhry Shamim in the Income Tax Colony.

Declaring the encounter a terrorist act on the part of police, Mr Luqman said police had again started killing innocent citizens by declaring them dacoits themselves.

He termed city SP Javed Shah’s act of rewarding the policemen who had killed his brother, an injustice and cruelty.

Mr Luqman said police arrested his brother from Sameejabad Colony in the morning and murdered him in cold blood just after 12 hours.

He expressed the hope that honest government officers would bring to book the policemen responsible for this brutality.

Imran’s neighbours Muhammad Islam, Faqeer Doqar, Muhammad Yaseen and Jalaluddin who were present on the occasion said he was a thorough gentleman. He had never been involved in any crime in the past. They also maintained that police arrested Imran from Sameejabad Colony.

The people of the area where the encounter took place, when contacted, were afraid and declined to comment. — Nouman
