18 killed in Kashmir


NEW DELHI, Jan 7: Eighteen people have been killed in separate incidents of violence in Kashmir, the UNI reported on Monday.

Five Pakistani soldiers were killed in an exchange of fire between troops on the Line of Control in Poonch on Monday, the UNI reported.

Police shot dead at least seven mujahideen near the Line of Control, the report said.

In Doda district, mujahideen ambushed the village of Sonwah late on Sunday, shooting dead six people and injuring 12 others. They also allegedly destroyed five homes.

BOYS INJURED: Three people, including a three-year-old boy, were injured Monday when Indian forces shelled a southern district of Kashmir, an official said.

Deputy Commissioner Poonch Chaudhry Liaquat Hussain told AFP that small and large arms fire targeted villages in Abbaspur sector.—dap/ AFP
