RAWALPINDI, Jan 7: The government is implicating the Tehrik- i-Jaferia Pakistan (TJP) in crimes committed by Madaressahs belonging to other sects, the TJP chief, Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, said on Monday.

Speaking at a press conference, Allama Naqvi criticized the government for conducting raids on religious schools and termed it as a conspiracy to close the Madaressahs.

“The way the police visit various Madaressahs and question the management about the sources of funding are regrettable. If any Madressah is run on foreign funding, the aid should come through the government, but, it should be in a proper way,” he said.

The TJP chief also condemned the government for launching a crackdown on religious groups, including the Tehrik-i-Jaferia. He said only those groups should be targeted that were involved in fanning sectarianism.

It is the government’s inefficiency to identify those organizations that were involved in sectarianism, he said.

To cover up its failure, the government started a crackdown on other religious sects and leaders, he added.

Commenting on the current situation, Allama Naqvi said operation against Afghanistan was the first phase of the international coalition’s campaign against Muslims whereas Indian aggression was its second phase.

The international community should force India to stop committing atrocities on innocent Kashmiris and cooperate with Pakistan in solving the Kashmir issue.

If the international community does not assist Pakistan, the government should also withdraw its cooperation, he added. He feared the government was planning to ban religious groups in the garb of terrorism.

Based on such policies, the government had been trying to include Tehrik-i-Jaferia among groups involved in sectarianism, he said.

Allama Naqvi said terrorism was continuing in the country since long, but, no grand operation had been carried out against terrorists so far.

He said the TJP would participate in the general elections.

“Elections should be held on the basis of proportional representation. Seats to the national, provincial assemblies and the senate be increased,” he said. The Election Commission should be made free and independent.

Allama Naqvi said the TJP would form alliance with other like-minded religious and political parties to run the upcoming elections from a joint platform.
