‘Police reforms to modernize investigations’

By Our Correspondent

TIMERGARA, Jan 7: Lower Dir District Police have recovered 44.46kg charas, 120gm opium, 318gm heroin, 7 bottles wine, 62 Kalashnikov rifles, 59 rifles, 55 shotguns, 125 pistols, two mines, 8kg explosion powders, 45 dynamites, 3 light machine guns, 174 chargers, 15 daggers and 15,869 cartridges in 2001, from different parts of the district.

A district police officer Muhammad Yasin told newsmen here on Monday.

He said the police reforms would modernize the investigation process in the country. Separation of detective and preventive staff would add to the improvement, he added.

Now DSP headquarters would be DSP investigation for the whole district. And two separate rooms— one big and one small—in each police station would be allotted to investigating staff, the officer said. All the cases concerned had already been handed over to this unit.

He said the SHOs would continue to head both the investigation and detective cells in the police station who would help facilitate the investigation process.

Inspector Muhabat Khan will serve as consultant to the investigation unit of the district and as co-ordinator with the DSP investigation.
