KARACHI: Unhygienic conditions in many areas

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 7: Filthy environment continues to prevail in different areas due to the overflowing gutters, heaps of garbage and water coming out from leaking pipelines.

The persisting unhygienic condition had given rise to cases of malaria and other infectious diseases not only in suburban localities but also in some so-called posh areas of the metropolis.

Attributing the rise in malaria and other infectious diseases to the unhygienic condition in many localities, doctors cautioned the public that the diseases might get an alarming proportion if the civic bodies failed to take measures aimed at bringing an end to the menace of mosquitoes.

Residents of various localities complained that at a time when malaria cases and other viral infectious diseases were on the rise, none of the town administrations of the city has, so far, started anti-mosquito and anti-flies campaign.

They criticized the sanitary staff of the city’s town administrations and food inspectors of the city government’s health department for not ensuring cleanliness in and around commercial centres and for not taking any action against those selling fruits and meat without placing nets over the foodstuff.

People residing in government quarters of Martin and Jehangir roads, regretted that gutters in their localities often remained overflowing and garbage often remained accumulated on dustbins and roadsides, most of such places have become permanent mosquito breeding grounds.

Similar complaints have been received from the residents of Lyari, Old City Area, PIB Colony, North Nazimabad, Federal-B Area, Malir, PECHS Block 2, Shah Faisal Colony, and Liaquatabad.
