PESHAWAR, Jan 7: NWFP Minister for Irrigation Shamsul Mulk has said that sound knowledge and better technical skills will play a vital role in the days to come in the development and prosperity of nations.

Talking to a delegation of the Institute of Engineers of Pakistan, headed by IEP President M. P. Gangwani, here on Monday, he called upon engineers to expedite their efforts for training and academic improvement, as technical know-how could ensure survival of developing nations.

The delegation, including IEP office-bearers Chaudhry Rashid and Shah Nawaz Khan, briefed the minister about the professional services of the organization, and highlighted the strategies the IEP has chalked out for the improvement of the engineering sector and the welfare of the engineering community.

The minister appreciated the efforts of the IEP for the promotion of professional skills, and assured the delegation of all possible assistance in implementing its plans.

PU EXAM SYSTEM: The vice chancellor of Peshawar University, Dr Zulfiqar Hussain Gilani, has said the  university administration has tried to introduce radical changes in the examination system to improve the standard of education and eliminate chances of unfair means in the examinations.

Speaking to a student delegation which called on him at his office here on Monday, he said the university had already introduced a central admission system and established a separate directorate for the purpose to help solve problems of students and reduce extra burden on the departments, says a Press release.

He said the university’s financial system had been made transparent and consolidated by better planning and management.

About the affiliation of private institutions with the university, Dr Gilani assured the students that there would be no compromise  on the standard of education and  only  those institutions would be given affiliation which showed quality.

The  vice chancellor said all departments would be computerized under the management information system by the end of current academic year.

UNITY COUNCIL: Abdul Wahab Yousufzai was elected chairman of Council of Understanding for National Unity of Afghanistan here on Monday.

The election was held by the 25-member executive committee, replacing Haji Hayatullah, says a Press release.

The meeting also elected Engineer Ghulam Nabi Mahboo-b as vice chairman and Naima-tullah Zeegar office secretary.

The committee also discussed Afghanistan’s situation, the Press release added.
