Ahmad slams hat trick

LAHORE, Jan 5: Four goals by Ahmad Ali Tiwana including a hat trick, enabled 1st Law Company to win the Christmas Cup Polo Tournament, defeating Olympia in the final 5-3 at the Lahore Polo Club Saturday.

Ahmad Ali Khan scored two goals in the first chukker and completed his hat trick in the third chukker by converting a spot penalty near the goalpost. Tanvir Tariq added one goal for the winners.

For the Olympia side, Jamal Iftikhar scored two goals while Feroze Gulzar added one.

A neck and neck fight was seen in the first chukker as both the teams were equal at 2-2 at the end of the chukker. Gulzar opened the account of the Olympia by scoring a field goal. But Ali Khan scored two back to back goals to put 1st Law Company ahead 2-1. Iftikhar restored the parity when he scored a field goal before the chukker was closed.

The second chukker was goalless. In the beginning of the third chukker, Tiwana completed the hat trick. Minutes later he scored his fourth goal by converting a 60 yard penalty hit to make it 4-2.

In the last chukker Tariq of the winners scored his lone goal on field effort before Iftikhar scored a field goal for the losers but only to loss the match 3-5.

Earlier, Hasan Raza Gillani scored six goals including two hat trick to help Marry Max thrashed Guard Rice by eight goals to one and a half goal to earn the third spot.

Mustafa Tiwana scored two goals for the winning team.

Guard Rice were awarded half goal on the handicap and scored one goal in the match through Shahzad Aziz.

Gillani registered first hat trick by scoring two goals in the second chukker and third in the next. He went for another hat trick after Aziz had scored a goal for the losers. Gillani scored three goals in the fourth chukker to complete second hat trick.
