KARACHI: Peace demo to be held tomorrow

By Our Staff Reporter

KARACHI, Jan 5: A candle-lit peace demonstration, second in a series, is being organized by the Joint Action Committee at the Civic Centre crossing in Gulshan-i-Iqbal on Monday 5 p.m.

The first such demonstration was organized by the Citizens for Peace at the Press Club on Monday after which the demonstrators, with candles in hands, had marched to a nearby fountain and returned to the club.

This time the organizers have decided to organize the demonstration under the banner of the Joint Action Committee. The peace demonstrations are being held to press the governments of India and Pakistan to relax the growing tensions at the borders and resolve all their issues through negotiations and to spend their meagre resources on the development of social sectors rather than spending these on non-developmental activities.

Another such peace demonstration was also organized in Lahore a few days back and the demonstrators had marched to Wagah border where they were baton-charged and many of them were injured.
