KARACHI, Jan 5: The government has decided to introduce technical education from the middle school level in the country, federal minister for special education and women development, Dr Attiya Inayatullah, said here on Saturday.

She was speaking at the inaugural ceremony of a website at the Government Polytechnic Institute for Women, Karimabad. The two-storey building of the institution has recently been completed with the assistance of the Sindh government and the Asian Development Bank at a cost of Rs48.16 million.

Dr Attiya said it was the need of the hour to enhance standard of education in the country as according to her about 0.15 million schools existed in the country but the education standard of the teachers was very poor. She asked the head of the institute to prepare a project worth Rs2 million for imparting modern technical education which would be sanctioned from the Unesco. She also asked the Khushhal Bank authorities and city district government to allocate a sum of Rs1 million for the institute.

The federal minister later gave shield to a student Aisha, who had developed the website. IMC chairperson Masooma Lotia, Executive District Officer Technical Education, Ghulam Akbar Chachar, and Principal Shahina Ansari also spoke on the occasion.—PPI
