Spurs victorious

LAHORE, Jan 4: Sunday TV and Spurs won their matches of the Marry Max II polo tournament at the Lahore Race Club Friday in contrasting styles.

Four goals by Malik Atif Yar Tiwana gave Sunday TV 10-3 win over Master Paints which paved the way for its moving into final of the competition.

Spurs carved out a hard-fought win over Borjan 7-6 during the fifth chukker when poles were widened to decide the winner. Captain Malik scored the all-important goal for Spurs. In fact, the two goals advantage on handicap proved decisive. That took Spurs into subsidiary final.

Atif scored two back-to-back goals for Sunday TV on field efforts. Arsalan Najeeb also scored a field goal. Sunday TV led 3-2 at end of the first chukker.

Arsalan scored his second and Sunday TV’s fourth field goal at beginning of second chukker. Atif scored his third goal on a 30 yards penalty-hit while Lt.-Col. Isfandyar Pataudi scored his first and Sunday TV’s sixth goal on a field effort.

Faaiz Rahim Khan scored his first and Sunday TV’s seventh goal while Atif scored his fourth goal, crowning field efforts to give Sunday TV 8-2 lead.

Isfandyar scored his second goal at beginning of fourth chukker. Mir Shoaib Ahmad put in the only consolation goal for Master Paints on a field effort. Faaiz scored his second field goal in the dying minutes.

Sunday TV: Arsalan Najeeb (2), Faaiz Rahim Khan (1), Malik Atif Yar Tiwana (3), Lt.-Col. Isfandyar Pataudi (2).

Master Paints: Mir Shoaib Ahmad (0), Sufi Muhammad Haris (1), Ashfaq Ahmad (2), Maula Bakhsh (2).
