LAHORE, Jan 4: The New Year Cup, featuring the 13th Lahore Winter Meeting card of six events, is expected to be a contest at the Racecourse on Saturday between two chestnut fillies, Sound Of Music and Flame. The race will be run over five furlongs.

The meeting scheduled for Sunday has been brought forward by a day because the Quaid-i-Azam Gold cup is being held at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Out of the nine acceptors  Sound Of Music and Flame, are in with big claims. A progeny of Biennial-out-of-Deeba, the filly Sound Of Music has staked her claim after a facile win in the term race for two-year-olds run over the identical distance on Oct 28 last.

Similarly, daughter of Prince’s Leap-out-of-Passenger, the filly Flame had registered a fluent victory on Nov 11 last year.

The events of three-year-olds stimulate a lot of interest.

The race-goers enjoy seeing an honest sort of colt or filly winning and appreciate the standard of the new crop of animals out of whom future champions are expected to emerge.

The main supporting event, the Mian Channu Plate, a class V handicap race to be contested over seven furlongs, has eleven acceptors.

Out of them the bay mare Fanim stands out, if anyone keeps an eye on her performance last Sunday.

She has been improving with each run and is in fine fettle. She should prove her class and pick up the spoils again.

The first race will start at 12 pm.
