ISLAMABAD, Jan 2: The former chief of the intelligence department during the Taliban rule, Qari Ahmedullah, was killed by US air strikes in Paktika province last month, the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) said on Wednesday.
The AIP said Ahmedullah was killed when US bombers hit the village of Naka on Dec 27.
Ahmedullah’s brother and two of his lieutenants were also mong those killed in the raid, AIP reported, quoting witnesses.
Witnesses told AIP that Ahmedullah’s body was shifted to his home province of Ghazni on Dec 31.
In his 40s, Ahmedullah had been an important Taliban commander in Afghanistan’s northern Takhar province.
Qari Ahmedullah was among the people wanted by the US in the Taliban regime, according to a list the American-led coalition released last month.—dpa
