Six held for Extorting money from transporters

GUJRAT, Dec 31: Police on Monday arrested six outlaws for extorting money from transporters.

According to a spokesman for the district police, the Gujrat SSP received complaints that some ‘bigwigs’ had deputed their musclemen who were extorting Rs100 per bus and Rs35 per wagon.

Following the complaints, the police chief ordered a clean-up operation against this mafia.

Those arrested are Arshad Iqbal, Riasat Ali, Imtiaz Ahmad, Azam, Tariq Shah and Saleem.

ARRESTED: Four highwaymen who had looted a marriage party some two days ago were arrested by the Saddar police on Monday.

A wagon carrying a marriage party was intercepted by some highwaymen near Gorali. The bandits snatched Rs58,000 in cash and jewellery from passengers and escaped in a wagon (GTD-885).

On a tip off, the Saddar police arrested the dacoits identified as Mushtaq, Khawar Nadeem, Rafaqat Moeen and Ikhlaq.

Meanwhile, police claimed to have arrested a three-member gang of highwaymen.

Those arrested are Nawaz, Nadeem and Ansar.
