KARACHI, Dec 28: Promising Karamatullah Khan staged a remarkable comeback to beat Ashfaq Hussain by three games to two to win the Quaid-i-Azam Day squash tournament Friday at the PIA Jahangir Khan Squash Complex.
In a closely fought 61-minute encounter, Ashfaq Husain of Pakistan Navy took the opening game at 15-12 by executing a series of winners as Karamatullah made unforced mistakes.
However, in the second and third games, Karamatullah played a more disciplined game. He mounted considerable amount of pressure by hitting good length as Ashfaq Husain lapsed into errors. He was 2-1 up by taking the second game and third games at 15-13 each.
Ashfaq Hussain remained in control of the fourth game winning at 15-6 by producing forehand and backhand drops to make the score level at 2-all.
Karamatullah mounted pressure at the start of the deciding game forcing Ashfaq to make mistakes. Karamatullah emerged victor 15-9.
In Thursday semifinals, Karamatullah Khan beat Rahmatullah Khan of Navy
15-7, 10-15, 15-12, 17-16 and Ashfaq Hussain defeated Kamran Ashraf 15-11, 15-14, 13-15, 15-11.
