KARACHI: Transporters seek repair of damaged roads

KARACHI, Dec 29: The Karachi Transport Ittehad has demanded of the City Nazim, Naib Nazim and DCO to get

the damaged roads of Baldia, Orangi, Qasba, Shershah and Mohajir Colony repaired by Jan 7.

In a joint statement, KTI leaders Syed Irshad Hussain Shah Bukhari, Malik Khalid Hussain Awan and Mohammed Tehmas Malik said they would stop plying buses and coaches in protest if the roads are not repaired by Jan 7 and responsibility would devolve be on the city government.

The decision to stop operating coaches, buses and mini-buses was taken by KTI at a meeting held on Friday.

It was pointed out in the meeting that transporters were paying billions of rupees annually as motor vehicle tax. The tax is recovered solely for repair of roads but not a single penny is spent on this count.
