LAHORE, Dec 22: Syed Shahid Ali Shah and Chaudhary Muhammad Arif were unanimously re-elected president and secretary of the Pakistan Wrestling Federation (PWF) at the General Council meeting here Saturday.

A full house comprising representatives from four Provinces, Army, Wapda, Pakistan Universities, Railways, Police and Referees Association participated in the elections and elected office bearers for a term of four years which expires in 2004.

With their re-election, both Shahid and Arif successfully maintained their strong hold in the national federation.

After the elections at Pakistan Olympic House ,Arif told APP that apart from electing office bearers the house fixed the dates of important national events besides taking important decisions.

Following were elected. (President) Syed Shahid Ali, (Vice Presidents) Chaudhary Iftikhar Ahmad, Brig Muhammad Khalid Khokhar, Noor ul Huda, Lt Col retd Khalid Hussain,(Secretary) Chaudhary Muhammad Arif, (Associate Secretary) S.M.Naqi, (Treasurer) Chaudhary Khalid Hasan. (Executive Committee) one member each from Balochistan, Pakistan Universities, Police, NWFP,Punjab, and Railways. (Selection Committee) Chaudhary Khald Hasan (Chairman),Chaudhary Muhammad Asghar, Chaudhary Muhammad Yaqub,Muhammad Azeem `11,Chaudhary Muhammad Arif (Convenor) and one nomination from Army and Universities. (Federations representatives to POA) Syed Shahid Ali and Muhammad Airf.

He said that the house decided that the final of the Rustam-e-Pakistan Dangal will be held here on Feb 2 next and the preliminary rounds of the competition will be completed before Jan 15.

‘The winner of this prestigious event will get a cash prize of Rs, 1000,000 and the runners up get Rs,75,000,’said Arif.

The newly elected secretary said the preliminary rounds will be organised to create equal opportunity for all the grapplers to display their talent and potential. Wapda’s Muhammad Baashir Bhola Bhala who is also the Rustam-e-Asia, will defend the title.

He said the house fixed Jan 11,12,13 the dates of the 49th National Championship which will be held here at Attiq Stadium with Wapda defending the title.

The house took decided not to lift indefinite ban imposed on six wrestlers from various departments for not attending the national training camp for the build up of SAF Games.

Shoukat (Army), Robin Masih, Dibar Ali (Wapda), Aimal Khan, Gulzar and Usman Majeed (Railways) did not attend the camp despite a number of reminders by the national federation which took disciplinary action against them.

“The house decided that they wrestlers should be kept under the ban and should not be allowed to take part in the national championship”, he said.

Arif said the case of the six grapplers will again be put before the Executive Committee for a final decision if the wrestlers join the camp for the SAF Games preparations and maintain a good conduct.—APP
