QUETTA: Former food official jailed

QUETTA, Dec 22: The anti-corruption court, Quetta, headed by Judge Atiqur Rehman, on Friday sentenced a former wheat supply contractor of the Balochistan food department to 28 years’ rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs29 million in a corruption case.

The anti-corruption establishment arrested the contractor, Nazir Ahmed Smooro, for selling illegally 69,934 bags of wheat.

According to the prosecution, Smooro misappropriated 22,074 bags of wheat while they were being transported from Usta Mohammad to Dhadar.

Moreover, 47,860 bags of wheat were found missing from the Usta Mohammad PR Centre in the Nasirabad district.
