HYDERABAD, Dec 16: A high-level meeting held here on Saturday under the chairmanship of Zila Nazim, Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman discussed educational matters in detail and noted with concern that no less than 292 primary schools had been rendered non-functional in Hyderabad District.
The officers of the education department and army support team attended the meeting.
The meeting observed that due to irregularities in the education department, a large number of schools were lying closed in the rural areas and 292 primary schools were lying closed in the district on the plea that teaching staff was not available.
It informed that the army district support team had conducted a survey and detailed inquiries which revealed that hundreds of teachers were surplus in rural schools and were getting their salaries and allowances without performing any duties.
It decided that all the closed schools should be reopened and one teacher be appointed for 25 students.
The meeting further decided that every school having 100 students and five classrooms would have a headmaster and an English teacher in addition to the necessary staff.
The meeting also decided to shift school teachers to those schools which had remained non-functional for many years while the female teachers would be adjusted in the same taluka except those having domicile of rural areas.
It elucidated that, however, if the husband of a female teacher was serving in the urban area, she too would be adjusted there.
