KARACHI: Eid being celebrated today

KARACHI, Dec 16: Like elsewhere in the country, people in Sindh will also celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with zeal and enthusiasm on Monday.

The government has declared Dec 17 to 19 Eid holidays.

The provincial government had taken extraordinary security measures and strengthened its intelligence network which helped prevent terrorism in Ramazan.

On Sunday, the last day of Ramazan, people thronged shopping centres, cloth, tailoring and grocery shops, etc. to complete their preparations for Eid celebrations. Shopping centres and tailoring shops, etc. would remain open the whole night on Sunday.

Law-enforcing agencies and police were seen patrolling important markets in the city such as Jama cloth market, Saddar, Regal Chowk, Tariq Road, Clifton and at many other places in the city in Ramazan.

The traffic police were also seen in a large number on busy thoroughfares to ensure smooth flow of traffic.

People living in Sindh interior and other areas were seen rushing to bus stands and railway stations making last minute efforts to reach their homes by Monday morning to celebrate Eid with their extended families.

The administration has taken special security measures to ensure peaceful Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at major mosques and Eidgahs in the city on Monday.

The Acting Sindh Governor, Justice Saiyed Saeed Ashhad, will offer Eid prayers at Bagh-i-Jinnah at 8am.—APP
