Death for killer

OKARA, Dec 14: District and sessions judge Chaudhry Mazhar Husain Minhas has awarded death sentence and 10-year rigorous imprisonment to a convict in a murder case here on Friday.

According to details, the judge awarded the sentence to Shah Tahir Islam. Five people Khalid Husain, Muhammad Saleem, Muhammad Nadeem, Muhammad Shahbaz and Muhammad Yasin had been awarded 35 years imprisonment with a fine of Rs50,000 each. They will have to undergo another two-year imprisonment each in case of default. Meanwhile, Abid Dogar was acquitted on the benefit of the doubt. One Muhammad Afzal is still at large.

The convicts had murdered one Shakil Anwar of 36/AGD during dacoity when he offered resistance. The deceased was the younger brother of Tariq Bhutto, the patron of Okara Union of journalists.

RALLY: A protest rally was brought out from the Central Imambargah, Renala Khurd, to observe Al Quds day here on Friday.

Led by Punjab Tehrik-i-Jafria provincial member Maulana Ghulam Shabbir Shirazi, hundreds of participants staged demonstration against Israel, India and the United States.
